The BSA has developed a training continuum that provides a comprehensive training program for all adult volunteer leaders in the scouting programs. This training continuum is seamless and allows leaders to advance through the training courses quickly and without duplication. Regardless of your leadership job in Scouting, there is training available to help you deliver the promise of Scouting to the youth in Wotamalo District.
The BSA breaks the training continuum into four levels of training:
 | Orientation/Introductory (Fast Start)
|
| Fast Start is a short video (approx 1 hour) with a study guide. Each video is a brief overview of a specific scouting program; Cub, Boy Scout or Venturing Scouting. Fast Start is intended for new leaders before they meet with the youth. Fast Start provides quick help and comfort to new leaders to develop their confidence. If your unit does not have the appropriate video and study guides, contact your District Executive or the council service center.

 | Basic Training
|
| Basic training is the minimum training a volunteer needs to understand their leadership position and to deliver a specific scout program to the youth.
Basic training consists of New Leader Essentials and Position Specific Training. Completion allows the leader to wear the “TRAINED” patch under the emblem of office for which it was earned.

 | Supplemental and Enhanced Training
|
| Supplemental Training is intended to enrich and expand the leader’s knowledge. These courses are designed to provide additional information on specific areas of Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting and Venturing. Some of the methods briefly discussed in the basic training courses are treated in greater depth. Course descriptions and content are presented in the Supplemental and Enhanced Training section.

Advanced Training
|

training course. Wood Badge features LEADERSHIP development. All scout
leaders in all scout programs who are trained in their leadership position
are encouraged to take Wood Badge.

What Makes a Trained Leader
The leader position and required units of training to achieve the ‘TRAINED’ leader patch are defined.
Refer to the schedule for the training events available in Wotamalo District. Other districts and the council also have scheduled training events. All Scouters are encouraged to take advantage of the training opportunities that fits his or her schedule.
