General Information

The Wotamalo District of the W.D. Boyce Council, BSA includes major parts of Woodford, Tazewell and Mason counties and a small corner of Logan county, all in central Illinois. These areas lie along the Illinois River and are roughly centered east of Peoria, Illinois. Wotamalo is the least populous of the four disticts which comprise the W.D. Boyce Council.

The major population centers are Pekin, East Peoria, Morton and Washington, but many other communities in these mostly rural counties boast active packs, troops and posts. We presently have registered units in Creve Coeur, Deer Creek, Delavan, East Peoria, Eureka (county seat of Woodford County), Germantown Hills, Havana (county seat of Mason County), Mackinaw, Manito, Marquette Heights, Mason City, Metamora, Minier, Morton, Pekin (county seat of Tazewell County), Roanoke, South Pekin, Spring Bay, Sunnyland, Tremont, Washburn, Washington. The present total is 68 packs, troops and posts.

The "minimum total travel" center of the district is approximatly the junction of Interstate routes 74 and 155 in Morton, so many district functions take place in or near this village of 15,000. Total driving time across the district from Havana on the south west to Washburn on the north is over 2 hours.

Although the Wotamalo District of W.D. Boyce Council is only a few years old, it is steeped in a rich heritage. This "Legend" tells a part of the story.
