All Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, Webelos Scouts, Boy Scouts who "crossed over" between the pack races and district races and Leaders that are registered with the Wotamalo District may enter the Wotamalo District Pinewood Derby. Past Pinewood Derby competitors may also enter the "Classic Cars" event at no cost.

Calendar, Registration and Costs

Pack registrations only.   Individual registrations will not be accepted.

No Pack registrations will be taken on race day. Up to 7 additional members of the pack may be added to the Pack's Race Registration by their packs on race day at a cost of $8.00 per Cub Scout and per Leader. The Pack's "Race Day Cubmaster" may make substitutions for absent registered participants at no cost.

Early Registration: Pack Race Registrations received at the Scout Service Center, 614 N.E. Madison, Peoria, IL prior to noon on 3/11/2005 will cost $7.00 per Cub Scout and per Leader entered in the competitions. ("Per person", not "per car"!)

Late Registration: Pack Race Registrations received at the Scout Service Center, 614 N.E. Madison, Peoria, IL after noon on Friday, 3/11/2005, but prior to noon on Friday, 3/18/2005, will cost $8.00 per Cub Scout and per Leader entered in the competitions. ("Per person", not "per car"!)

The word "noon" in the above is significant, because race organizers will pick up the entries at that time to begin that stage of race preparations. If you mail the registrations, then it is up to you to assure that the mail arrives on time! (Maybe this would be a good time to hand-carry the paperwork!)

SPECIAL NOTE TO ALL CONCERNED: This project is for a parent and son, and is recommended as such by the National Boy Scouts of America. The District Staff STRONGLY SUGGESTS that each Pack leader emphasize this idea within the Pack. In all of the events, we require that the cars be built this year. Judges will have access to pictures of last year's cars.

PROCEDURES SUGGESTED FOR USE BY EACH PACK:

BEFORE RACE DAY:

During the months preceding the District Pinewood Derby, your Pack should have a Pinewood Derby. From this pack competition you will be able to pick your top four (4) Scouts in the race competition for each grade bracket.

The Scout qualifies for the district race, not the Scout's car. He may race the same car that he raced at the Pack's derby, or he may improve upon it.

All boys in the Pack are encouraged to enter at least one event. A Scout may, if he wishes, enter both of the design events. However, he must have more than one (1) car to do so.

After determining which Scouts qualify to race and which Scouts wish to enter the design events, prepare the 2005 Pack Registration Form and get it to the Scout Service Center with necessary fees. Only "pack" registrations will be accepted. Individual registrations will not be accepted.

This year, each Pack should bring its Pack flag for display in the Central arena. Bring a flag stand for your own flag. Each boy should, if at all possible, have on his uniform. One pack flag and American flag will be assigned for the opening ceremonies.

RACE DAY CUBMASTER:

The Cubmaster or appointed adult will obtain his Pack's packet from Derby Officials near the front entrance, and he will take his packet aside and:

  1. Determine if any registration changes are needed. Take the packet back to the Derby Officials and arrange for changes.
  2. Fill out the certificates and take them and the patches to the next pack meeting to award to the participants.

PARENTS:

  1. Know your Scout's Pack Number and Cub Scout Year!
  2. Arrive early! Arrive well before the end of the check-in/inspection period for your age group.
  3. Help make sure that your Scout(s) get to their check-in/inspection area(s) early. Allow extra time if he has cars in multiple events! (There will be a person with a sign to mark the end of the inspection line!)

PREWEIGH: We will try to have two (2) scales near the inspection area, where you can verify your own car weight and make the corrections before reporting for inspection. These scales are not official.

OLD STYLE (DEEP WHEELWELL) WHEELS: All of the old style (deep wheelwell) wheels are out of the supply line now. They are not acceptable for the Cub Scout Racing events. They may be used in design or adult competitions.
